Lecture: “Molecular Diagnostics in Neuro-Oncology”

We invite you to attend the lecture entitled “Molecular Diagnostics in Neuro-Oncology”, which will be delivered by Prof. Bożena Kamińska-Kaczmarek.

Prof. Bożena Kamińska-Kaczmarek is the Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Neurobiology at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. She graduated from the Faculty of Biology at the University of Warsaw in 1985. She obtained her PhD degree at the Nencki Institute in 1991 and completed her habilitation there in 1997. In 2003, she received the title of Full Professor from the President of the Republic of Poland. Between 2009 and 2024, she served as Director of the Postgraduate School of Molecular Medicine at the Medical University of Warsaw. In 2016, she was elected a corresponding member of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In 2022, she was elected to EMBO. She completed numerous international scientific fellowships, including a postdoctoral fellowship at McGill University in Montreal, a visiting scientist position at the Brain Research Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Nanshan Scholar Visiting Professorship at Guangzhou Medical University.

Her research focuses on molecular neurobiology, neuro-oncology, and tumor immunology. Through a mechanistic understanding of the interactions between the immune system and tumors, she aims to contribute to the development of new immunomodulatory strategies against incurable brain tumors. She is a pioneer in comprehensive single-cell omics studies of the brain tumor microenvironment.

She has led 52 national and international research grants, including grants from the National Science Centre (Maestro, Harmonia, Symphony, OPUS), the National Centre for Research and Development (Strategmed 1, 2, 3), the Foundation for Polish Science (Master, Team-Tech Core Facility), and 3 ERANET grants. She currently coordinates the Horizon Europe Mission on Cancer project HITGLIO. She has supervised 35 PhD theses, 5 habilitations, and 15 master’s theses.

Her scientific achievements include 172 publications and 10 book chapters, cited more than 17,000 times, with an H-index of 65 (Google Scholar). She is the recipient of the prestigious Foundation for Polish Science Award (2021), the Prime Minister’s Award for habilitation (1997), and the Prime Minister’s Award for scientific achievements (2024).

The lecture will be held online on May 27, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
